Yoga Myth No.1 of 8: ‘I’m not flexible enough to do yoga.’

Nov 5, 2016 | Yoga for Beginners, Yoga Tips

Avoiding things is so much easier if we have an excuse.
Yes, you’ve heard yoga’s good for you but there’s also a shroud of uncertainty and apprehension that makes you feel uncomfortable. So let’s dispel some myths.

Myth No.1 ‘I’m not flexible enough to do yoga.’

This is a huge one. Perhaps more accurately interpreted as ‘I’m afraid of looking stiff, sluggish and completely incompetent in class’ or ‘I’m afraid of how it will make me feel.’

Then trust me, yoga is exactly what you need.

Come exactly as you are and try to keep an open, ‘flexible mind’, the rest will follow. Physical flexibility is not a requirement before you start, it’s a by-product that comes with practice. Every body is different, your practice will increase strength and flexibility but even more importantly, you’ll become more aware, learning to accept where you are so that you can grow from there.
