A Week of Joy, Freedom and Connection for Conscious Women

This is a rare opportunity for you to adventure to Thailand and have a truly inspiring, enriching experience while boldly taking a stand for what you long for.

Reclaiming Wholeness

What is your relationship to joy?  Relationship to freedom? Relationship to creativity? How rich and meaningful is your connection with yourself and with others?

When was the last time you spent 7 days of quality time just for yourself? Or with your closest girlfriends (or mother/daughter)? And when was the last time you didn’t have to organize a thing?

If you’re a successful woman in a stressful position, adding the organisation of a trip for yourself or with people you care about is just another thing to do, so it either never happens or it just adds to your stress. Here’s a way to make that happen and spend a week every year having an enriching time with like-minded indviduals.

When you give yourself permission for joy and define that for yourself, when you can define freedom and creativity what would that look like for you?

I have seen how many leaders, changemakers, organizers, seekers, and practitioners are feeling bone weary. Depleting resources has contributed to more stress and anxiety within the work environment, but also within our bodies. Feeling scarce in our body is incredibly vulnerable often translating as I have nothing more to give.

Reclaiming Wholeness Retreat is an invitation to lay down the weight of responsibilities you carry in daily life and start reclaiming a more real, intimate, and liberated experience of yourself, your needs and desires.

The path to that is actually slowing down first in order to replenish your system – because joy, freedom and creativity come from within and are the outcome of replenished energy. It means filling your cup first.

On this retreat we begin to do that by allowing the natural beauty of our surroundings in Thailand to be inspiration as stress and anxiety melts away. When we trust ourselves to slow down, stillness, silence and breath will become our refuge, from which spaciousness and clarity begin to emerge. While somatic gentle movement, yoga practices and meditation will be the foundation for change.

Each day will be an opportunity to go deeper into a felt sense of connection, inner wisdom and release. One of the most valued and appreciated aspects of the retreat is sharing this experience with like-minded women. As we progress through the week integrating enquiry, self-reflection and insight, you’ll feel into the most natural, authentic expression of who you are and this will be reflected back to you as you witness and listen to others.

The result is that you will unravel, replenish and discover for yourself that the outcome is an emergence of joy, creativity and freedom. So in reality, you can’t do more to get there. There’s a discovery of how to do less.

Our embodied experience guides our thoughts and actions, so that we can respond intelligently to our challenges, we can also collaborate joyfully and effectively with others. Ultimately, supporting each other in creating more meaningful impact in the world.

Thailand Samahita Retreat
Samahita Retreat has been a pioneer in healthy programming for the body, breath and mind for 20 years. It has been called by many as a “hidden gem” located on the quiet beach of Bang Kao on the southern coast of Koh Samui, a tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand.

Surrounded by towering coconut trees in a quiet, spacious area, with incredible sunrises and sunsets that play with the colors of the water, sand and tropical fauna. The beach is non-touristy and virtually undisturbed, creating a beautiful, peaceful setting for you to enjoy your Thailand stay. The island has the allure of a remote island paradise but with the accessibility of the region’s most popular destinations.

Karen Kurzmeyer

Karen Kurzmeyer

As a driven and over-worked business owner, I tried yoga to help relieve stress and regain strength and flexibility. I never looked back and sold my company to dedicate my career to inspiring others to prioritize their health, well-being and stress relief through yoga.

Since 2014 I have completed 1100+ hour yoga teachers training at Centered Yoga, Samahita in Thailand, am certified by Yoga Alliance RYT 500 and regularly attend continued professional development in philosophy, anatomy, movement including alignment and somatic practices, pranayama (breath work) and meditation. I specialize in teaching private clients as well as offer coaching, holistic immersion programmes and lead retreats.

In 2020, I became a certified Integral Facilitator through Ten Directions Integral Facilitation Program led by Diane Musho Hamilton, a master facilitator, mediator and Zen Roshi. The training combined leading insights from the fields of developmental psychology and Zen awareness together in an Integral approach has had a profound effect on the way I connect to the world around me and approach my work and life.

I’m currently studying a Mastery program with Suzanne Anderson, psychologist, author, executive coach and transformational facilitator having completed her 15-month in-depth integral leadership development program for women in December 2022. This deep work explores the powerful evolutionary capacity for women to live, love and lead with a whole new level of consciousness and leadership capacity.

My background as a professional ballet dancer, teacher and business owner plus being a mother of 3 sons and living in a foreign country all contribute to my strengths as a teacher, allowing me to help clients who are looking for a way to integrate their whole beings and awaken to their innate wisdom, courage and potential.

Yoga and Self-Care Retreats with Karen Kurzmeyer
I am very pleased, that I could be part of this great experience. I love your approach, the structure, and all the useful and important information and teachings you provide … I did a lot of writing, making notes, to which I return now regularly and it helps me to be more present, mindful and aware about myself and the world around me.

The retreat content was what I had hoped it would be and even more. The first couple of days I was easing into the practice. I loved the structure and combination of meditation, pranayama and the flow. I noticed the benefits of being able to do it all with more ease after my body warmed up and the regularity and consistency of practicing every day. I have taken so much home with me, which I try to integrate into my everyday practice.

Most of all I appreciated the sense of calmness and self-awareness that I felt overall.  The amazing food, climate, weather and beautiful location. The meaningful conversations with you Karen 🙂 Great company of people within the group. The Thai people were also very polite, friendly and welcoming.

I would definitely recommend this retreat. Karen’s retreats are just such a special and important, time well spent for me. There is always a shift, a kind of transformation, a transition between the before and after feeling. It gives me so much clarity and awareness for my busy everyday life. This time I came back a different person, I am much more positive, in the way I consider my tasks and the busy, stressful life around me. The way I am able to give advice to someone who is struggling the same way, and share my experiences about my journey with others. A lot has changed for the better!

 Aniko. S.

The curiosity to explore new behaviors to strengthen my holistic well being was satisfied – and then some! – due to the knowledgeable, caring manner that Karen architected and delivered on our Samahita Retreat experience.  Her ability to tap into the needs and wonders of each participant and foster an environment of safety and exploration reaped rewards far beyond improved physical flexibility… my mindset shifted, my nutrition has been altered and connections were made that I will forever be grateful for.

Pausing my typical day to day opened brain space that has created a sustainable, healthier outlook that benefits me everyday.  This life-changing souvenir exceeded my hopes for the retreat.”

I would totally recommend this retreat. It was a great deal better than expected. Beforehand, I felt a mix between not being sure what I was getting myself in for and guilt for leaving work – but left full-hearted and immensely grateful for the experience.

Philosophy on Food

Samahita is renowned for its delicious, nutritious food based on the principle of Ayurveda and thus yoga. To keep it natural means all homemade without processed food, local ingredients as much as possible, organic if available, and a well-balanced mix of ingredients. Equally, to keep it healthy in today’s modern food environment means no sugar, no iodized salt, no MSG or related products, and only the use of stable and healthy oils and fats.

The timing of food on the buffet is designed to support your practice and activity level. Equally, how the food is made and what is in it are vital to your reenergizing of life and how your body gets cleaner, lighter and stronger. Hidden ingredients like oils, salt and sugar, along with bad food combinations, are often the main culprits behind low energy, weight gain, poor digestion, disturbed sleep, and a variety of other maladies. There is a team of over 10 Thai cooks and a talented head chef. They make all the food with care and love, ensuring everything is homemade and fresh. They also cater for a wide variety of diets, displaying all possible allergens, give raw and vegan options while also catering for those who like to eat fish and dairy.

I Have Pre-Existing Pain and/or Injuries, Can I Still Practice?

Yoga and Mindful Movement practices are often advised to those dealing with pain or healing from injuries. However, please be sure to receive your doctor’s permission to begin any new physical activity. It is essential you tell me if you’re experiencing pain or recovering from any injuries, so I can help guide you through a safe practice.

Should I Eat or Drink Before I Practice?

Try not to eat anything heavy before you practice. It will make breathing and your movements that much easier on an empty stomach. Try to avoid drinking during practice. Please bring your own water bottle.

I Have a Question, Where Should I Ask?

Please email me at karen@karenkurzmeyer.com with your questions and I’ll get right back to you.
