About Me
Karen Kurzmeyer

DO YOU REMEMBER when you considered yourself reasonably fit – you looked after your body, you exercised, you had plenty of energy, you could burn the candle at both ends and still function efficiently?

But as time went on, family/work/life commitments got in the way and somewhere along the line your health and wellbeing got buried under endless To-Do lists. You didn’t have the time or energy to prioritise taking care of yourself. You let go of your healthy routines, of what supported you the most.

That was me too.

A while back, I was a driven and over-worked business owner in Luzern juggling my work, family and life and had completely lost sight of feeling grounded and centered. Realising I hadn’t had a family holiday for 12 years without taking my business with me, I finally booked my first ever yoga retreat in Thailand to clear my head and get perspective.

That week deeply affected everything on a physical, mental and emotional level. My body became more toned, strong and flexible and I felt energised and composed. Stressful situations became easier to manage and I began to sleep better… my relationship with myself shifted.

Yoga Allowed Me to Connect to Who I Really Was.

I trained ballet intensively from a young age and became a professional. When I changed careers, I closed that door as the past was the past and I needed to move on. When I started practicing yoga in Thailand, I felt like I had finally come home – 20 years later. It was the most natural feeling in the world. I loved reconnecting to my body, it was where I felt the most present. I had come full-circle.

I was certain that there were many people like me who on the outside were very skillful in juggling their family, career and life but were secretly struggling. I knew I could help them have a better life through yoga.

I returned to Thailand, completed my teacher training, sold my company and became a professional yoga teacher. I continue to invest in and regularly attend further yoga education programmes in teacher training, pranayama (breathing) and meditation.

It’s tempting to enthusiastically launch into sharing the new insights, techniques and revelations but I love first integrating the teachings again and again into my own practice, working towards an intelligent understanding from the inside out before sharing from a place of integrity and experience.

My background as a professional ballet dancer, teacher and business owner plus being a mother of 3 sons and living in a foreign country all contribute to my strength as a teacher, allowing me to help clients that are looking for a way to integrate balance into their busy lives.

I’m fascinated by the nuances in the body and how it’s able to move based on what’s going on in the mind and I love seeing the external and internal transformation my clients experience. It’s subtle at first but the shifts are significant and huge.

You don’t need the latest trendy fitness programme, the perfect yoga studio, the coolest gear or a mass of other people around you to spur you on. You just need one person who shows up for you, who meets you exactly where you are, who provides a trusting space and supports your individual needs. One person who teaches you the skills to feel more grounded, calm, strong and at peace so you can become more focused and allow your true essence to shine through.

It’s a journey and it’s as honest as it gets.

Allow Me To Help You Connect To Who You Truly Are.

Teaching Background

In 2014, I completed my initial yoga teacher training in Ashtanga Vinyasa RYT 200 at Centered Yoga, Samahita, Thailand. I am certified by Yoga Alliance RYT 500 and as my practice evolved, incorporating a number of movement influences, I returned to Samahita each year, completing their 1100 hour training. I regularly attend continued professional development in philosophy, anatomy, fascial integration, movement including alignment and somatic practices, pranayama and meditation.

My teaching has been influenced by Paul Dallaghan, a senior student of Sri O.P. Tiwari, one of the last remaining classical yogis teaching traditional and classical pranayama, Arielle Nash, Francesca Cervero and Jade Wood.

In 2020, I became a certified Integral Facilitator through Ten Directions Integral Facilitation Progam led by Diane Musho Hamilton, a master facilitator, mediator and Zen Roshi. The training has had a profound effect on the way I connect to the world around me and approach my work and life.

I’m currently studying a Mastery program with Suzanne Anderson, psychologist, author, executive coach and transformational facilitator having completed her 15-month in-depth integral leadership development program for women in December 2022. This deep work explores the powerful evolutionary imperative for women to live, love, lead in the world with a whole new level of consciousness and leadership capacity.

I’m constantly inspired to keep learning, to question, refine, adapt and grow in order to guide and support others to find a deeper connection to themselves through yoga, mindfulness and self-care.
